Hitler and those deceived by him

I walk on the treadmill or use a stationary bicycle and at times I watch various clips on youtube about history and there is religious history and culture and there is also the story of culture and war.

Hitler came to power in 1933 and between 1933 and 1939 there were journalists and also governments in Europe and in the US which underestimated the threat of Hitler to peace and whether or not he was leading his nation and the world to war.

There was the Anschluss of Austria in 1938. Various professors of Harvard and in other places wrote that Hitler was not leading the world or Europe to war or at least, not immediately, though he had just take over Austria by threat of force.

Hitler had written in Mein Kampf about what he was going to do and he persuaded the German nation and government to go along with him in greater or lesser degree.

The French intelligence service told the French government that Hitler was a serious threat and that they should expect war.

The French government and the English government of the time did not wish to listen.

Many people in England were jubilant about the so-called peace agreement reached with Hitler in Munich. Churchill believed that it was a disaster.

Churchill said, “You were given the choice between war and dishonour.  You chose dishonour and you will have war.”

In a speech in October 1938, Churchill said that we have sustained a defeat without a war.

How did it happen that so many journalists, governmental leaders and others who were seeemingly responsible failed to appreciated the growing danger of Hilter?

I do not know but it seems that there are people who think like the leaders of Britain prior to Churchill in Seattle and who serve on juries and respond to the situation with Cameron with supposing that he was not much of a danger.
